Project title: American Culture center
Project information:: American Culture Center is the grant of the United States State Department (ECA). Center is a collection of informational resources in English, consulting educational service and a place of realization of cultural events.
Project goals:
- to provide access to the full information about the USA ,
- to contribute to the education contact development,
- to popularize the American culture.
Result: The Center supplies it's users with information about U.S.A., and serves their linguistic and educational needs. Besides the traditional collections of books and periodical editions, the Center has a wide collection of fiction films on video and DVD, interactive educational programs, electronic encyclopedias, and dictionaries and reference books on CDs.
ACC users have access to daily news "Washington File". This file includes actual news and analysis of events, official claims, texts and references in English and Russian languages.
Computer network in the American Culture Center provides the users with access to electronic catalogue of the library and to the Internet.
To users attention different exhibitions, meetings, informational workshops and trainings are suggested.

Project title: Summer Library Internet School - 2002 and 2003 with elements of distance learning as a next stage of Kazakhstani librarians’ professional development
Project information: Summer Library Internet School with elements of distance learning– the project supported by the SCOUT program within the framework of small grants program for American programs alumni. SCOUT program funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States State Department (ECA), under authority of the Fulbright - Hays Act of 1961 as amended, and administered by the Open society Institute (OSI) and the Civic Education project (CEP).
Project goals:
- to develop new interactive and distance ways of professional development
- to summarize results that have been done on using new technologies in Public libraries of Kazakhstan
- to give participants general understanding in area of digital literacy and knowledge management in two completely new topics in Kazakhstani librarianship
- to enable participants to conduct training courses on these topics after coming back

Summer Library Internet School 2000, 2001

Project title: "Summer Library Internet School"
Funded by: Open Society Institute Network Library Programs
Project Goals:
- to train Kazakhstani librarians to use Internet as a reference tool
- to show them effective ways in Internet searching
Result: Summer Internet Schools have essentially contributed in digital development of librarians. Today they work with IT in all city libraries, Internet-classes of Almaty and Astana, at 12 oblast libraries, 10 regional libraries, and in some Central Asia cities and towns of Altai Republic (Russia.)

- to give an opportunity for innovative librarians of East Kazakhstan Association to share their experience on line;
- to involve other librarians from all over Kazakhstan in new innovative ways in librarianship;
- to foster on line cooperation among librarians of Kazakhstan;

Project Title: Library is a technological center of information, education and culture

Project managers: Khabiba Akzhigitova and Nataliya Kharlamova
Project objectives:
- to develop the Library informational function on the base of new technology usage
- to provide new informational reference services to the local community
- to contribute to development of modern libraries in Kazakhstan
Result: The project “Library as a Technological Center of Information, Education and Culture” (OSI) has increased the library information potential and provided distant service. These services are available to population of 10 rural oblast regions (not for all 17).

Goals:
The Center’s activities will be focused on the legal development of our society, develop ideas of democracy, the highest law of which is - the good of the people.

Result:
The project “Open Law Information Center” (OLIC), (EF/USAID, ABA/CEELI) has attracted 682 customers only in the first month of its activity. Now it serves more than 11000 people a year. Free juridical consultations, including distant ones, are arranged for the public.
OLIC is a successful model of providing legal service to the public, it is a steady model of innovation in the field of civic rights. The Center has contributed to the formation of 300 of NGOs and independent mass media in the oblast.

Vostok MedInfo

Project title: "Vostok MedInfo”
Grant Information: The grant enabled the creation of computer network for providing access to national and world medical information centers for regional medical institutions
Funded by Open Society Institute Network Library Programs
Project Goals:
- to provide access to the Internet, particularly to medical reference sites and databases for medical specialists.
- to conduct Internet training for local medical specialists
- to organize local medicine network
Result: The project “VostokMedInfo” (OSI) has drawn Oblast Public Health Department, the Institute of Regional Pathology, Medical College, Oblast Cancer Health Center and other institutions to master IT and promote the creation of oblast medical institutions computer Network.
