Special book collections The Pushkin Regional Library,
as the first national cultural institution, appearing in Ust-Kamenogorsk, has
become the basic book depository of the Region. Its collection more than 300 thousand
books, among them there are some rare books, which were published at the end of
19 century. With these rare books the Library has started its work: Famous
“Brockhaus's and Evfron's encyclopedia”, which was published from 1890 to 1904;
“Reference Encyclopedia” edited by Sarchevskey, published in 1854;
“Origin of Modern Democracy” by M. Kovalevskey (1895) “The Principles
of Public Law in England” by A. Dicey (1891) Anniversary books, published
by I. D. Sytin's well known publishing house in 1911-1912, such as Tolstoj's collection
in 4 volumes, “Patriotic War and Russian Society in 1812-1912”, “The Great Reform”
(about the emancipation in Russia in 2 volumes, on which “Ust-Kamenogorsk national
requiring payment library from 1898” stamp remains).The Library
also houses the famous press edition of pre-Revolutionary Russia - A. Smirdin,
M. Wolf and A. Marks. Rare books include also the facsimile reproduced manuscripts
“Konstantin Kiril, Philosopher's Extensive Life” (15-th century, Vasiley Korenia's
Bible (1692-1698). Rare Books of Local Lore. Jambyl
Jabajev's two collections in Kazakh and Rusian languages, published in 1938
commemorating the 75-th anniversary of akin; “The Hunter of Altaj” a magazine,
that was publishing in Ust-Kamenogorsk in 1924. (10 issues, edited by Efim
Permitin).The past doesn't exit... The book remains. It overcomes
time and space. There is an immense spiritual world of humanity in it. "Put
your heart at reading" and the books will tell... Up
